Labour Day Free Concert

For over 20 years, Rome celebrates the Labour Day (1st of May) with a huge free concert held in Piazza San Giovanni, just in front of the imposing basilica façade, organised by the major Italian labour unions: CGIL, CISL and UIL. Very popular between young people, arriving in Rome from every part of Italy and ready to spend a night awake just to get a good view of the stage, this concert boasts every year international artists such as Alanis Morisette, Robert Plant and Oasis, beside some of the most important Italian artists (Vasco Rossi, Cristicchi, Capossela for instance) and emerging bands as well. In any case, either if you know or not who is singing, the Concertone del Primo Maggio is a good chance to listen to some good music and meet people.
