End-of-the-year holidays in Rome are not only about tradition and religion – Christmas markets or nativity scenes are not the only things worth visiting at this time of the year. Over the past fe years, new events have been established in the city which deserve a visit (or a social media-worthy picture!) and we’re here with this new post to recommend some of them! And remember: Many of the apartments in our portfolio are walking distance from the events we’re listing here: go check them out!
The local edition of Spain’s very own “Naturaleza Encendida”, Lights in Nature – Life is an immersive experience that has found its Italian home in the gardens of 19th century Palazzo Brancaccio, walking distance from the Monti district and close to the Termini area. As with many of these events, lights and light effects are central to the visit, which is recommend you do fully after dark (last entrance is allowed at 10PM). This page lists the different timetables depending on local holidays. The event will continue until the start of February.
Address: Via delle Terme di Traiano, 2
Rome’s very first immersive event makes a comeback after last year’s success – here’s a chance to visit Trastevere’s beautiful botanical gardens after dark, with a colorful, luminous surprise at every step – and with food trucks to get something to eat at the end of your experience! Runs until January 7. Information and tickets here.
Address: Via Corsini, 25
Last year’s star event is back with over 50,000 square meters (or 12 acres) of Christmas-themed events for younger crowds… And their parents! Make your way to the Villa Borghese park for musical numbers, an ice rink, a live action nativity scene, gospel concerts and over 300 actors reenacting scenes and traditions from all over the planet. This event will take place until January 7. Tickets can be bought here or at the entrance.
Address: Piazzale della Canestre (Villa Borghese park)
A new opening in the very center of Rome (walking distance from Piazza Venezia, Largo di Torre Argentina or the Jewish Ghetto), this is another light-heavy immersive experience, happening indoors rather than in a park. Visits are possible every day and will go on after the end of the holidays, too! More information, including opening hours, is available at this address.
Address: Via d’Aracoeli, 6 (Piazza Venezia)
Imagine rescuing a former bus depot from neglect and transforming it into a place of wonder – this is the Pratibus district, which has become a fixture for Roman families with its fun-filled exhibitions. Once again, the operative word is “immersive” – fifteen colorful installations will challenge you to rethink the way you see the world around you. More information is at this page. The event runs until January 28.
Address: Viale Angelico, 52
