The Capitoline Hill and Museums in Rome

This post is a little different from the others where we describe the apartments we manage. Instead of being the ones doing the talking, we’ll let you decide by yourself whether or not the accommodations we manage are worth of your booking!

How so?

What follows is a short selection of reviews and messages we have received from our past customers.

While hiccups can happen, and we’re not immune to the occasional negative comment, From Home to Rome has glowing reviews online, as we strive constantly to get better at what we do.

We promise we read carefully every feedback we get, and many of the suggestions we get there are implemented and pursued as a result because we really wish for our guests to have a home away from home when they visit our city!

Shelly, for instance, had to say this about Casa Isabella al Colosseo:

This apartment offers a great location, lots of restaurants/ bars close by and opposite the tube station. The apartment was clean and modern, the beds were comfortable and kitchen well equipped. There are plenty of small touches like shampoo, soap, fluffy towels, Bluetooth music system, lots of toilet roll, books etc. It is quite special to see the Colosseum from the window.

Danielle wrote about Clockhouse:

This property was perfect for our 4 night stay in Rome. Great location, roomy bedrooms and living room, private terrace, and large sunny windows. My friends and I traveled Europe for 3 weeks staying in Airbnbs in 10 different cities and these were the most comfortable beds we came across the whole trip.

Levi stayed at Catalana al Ghetto:

Stylish fresh apartment, very conveniently located yet exceptionally quiet, with plenty of amenities in the kitchen and throughout. Lots of sunlight (accompanied with good blockout window shades), good views and generous comfortable space. Communication and check in was seamless.

Catherine commented on Wanderlust, smack dab in the heart of Trastevere:

This is one of the best air bnbs I have stayed it, all the information on the listing is completely accurate and the apartment is even better in real life. Sara met us at the apartment after arranging a taxi to collect us from the airport, she was incredibly welcoming and helpful. The location of the apartment is perfect to be close to all the key sites by walking distance and on the doorstep of some great places to eat. As people said it can be a bit loud at night but it didn’t bother us, plus there are ear plugs on every bed. I would definitely recommend anyone to stay here, it is truly unique and would love to go back in the future.

And Jane piped in about Via Gallia, observing that it was even more spacious than in the photos. We loved sitting on the top terrace in the mornings and evenings, and escaping to the cooler, covered one when it was too hot up there. The local area is fantastic, great restaurants at every turn. We got buses everywhere we went – super easy! Emanuele also recommended a local tour company as we wanted to arrange private guided tours. The guides were just fantastic; we learnt so much! We had a fab holiday, one we will remember for a long time”.

What are our guests’ main peeves?

Of course, as mentioned, sometimes we get feedback that is not exactly stellar.

Some past guests have had issues with the lack of elevators to get to some of the apartments, or are disappointed when there are steps in the flats. In our defense, that is always spelled out clearly in the descriptions we provide on our site as well as Airbnb or Booking.com. Not to mention, most of our rentals are in listed buildings, which means it’s not possible to fit elevators in them due to archaeological or historical restrictions. That is an unfortunate consequence of having a place in Rome that’s over 500 years old!

Most times, though, our customers’ main complaint is on the decor or furnishing of the apartment they rented. “A little note that the living room sofa would need updating“, Patrice wrote in his Casa Isabella al Colosseo review. Sabine echoed his sentiments when she wrote back in 2017, about Paradiso Penthouse, that “the apartment is a bit tired and scuffed“. Sabine went on listing items she would have loved to see in the kitchen, which we proceeded to add, but her comments or Patrice’s got us thinking that some guests probably expect a vacation rental to be like a hotel suite…Which it is not.

It bears repeating: the places we offer are someone’s actual houses. We only manage them because the owners are out of town, or are not good with technology and can’t deal with online bookings. The “tired” furnishings sometimes are a reflection of the landlords belonging to a different generation than our own – sometimes that sofa that seems just plain old to someone may have sentimental value to somebody else.

While we collaborate with the owners who trust us to manage their properties and sometimes succeed in introducing them to innovations and fresh decor ideas, sometimes it takes us a little more time than average to convince them that change is good.

Just know we are working for you, even more so during your stays: we’re always an email away and you can message us with questions or concerns using the free Wi-Fi provided in all of our apartments when you feel there is something you need to ask about the place you booked.
