L’Italia Chiamò: a fundraiser for the Coronavirus emergency

Italians are quickly discovering that the sense of sympathy and solidarity the country is known for is alive and kicking, unaffected by the Coronavirus.

In the following days we will tell you the stories of those Romans who are doing something to help the most fragile age groups during this crisis, and about those who are collecting funds to support hospitals and buy protective gear for the doctors there.

In the meantime, one massive fundraiser is set to happen on Friday, March 13.

An eighteen-hour long marathon has been set-up by a number of leading Italian musicians, directors, journalists and intellectuals. Called “L’Italia chiamò”, as the last verse in our national anthem, the show will be broadcast live on YouTube (see window at the top of this post!) and will begin at 6AM, CET.

In the words of the organizers, “L’Italia chiamò is “the biggest live streaming of all time”. And it’s going to tell the world how Italy is responding to the Coronavirus emergency.

We will tell the stories of those who are keeping schools open using digital technology; of those companies reinventing themselves through smart working; of artists, cultural festivals, shows, concerts and exhibitions halted because of the virus, who find a new form of entertainment thanks to the Internet.
