What kind of Roman apartment is the right fit for you?

As our portfolio of managed accommodations keeps expanding, we understand that some visitors to Rome cannot really tell one from the other.

A city too layered to be known completely!

There are multiple reasons for this. They can be unaware of the fact that most of the city center can be easily visited on foot and most attractions are walking distance from each other. They don’t know the districts (and therefore cannot tell party central from cozy and quiet!).

They also don’t realize that the large majority of apartment complexes in central Rome are several centuries old, with many buildings being listed. While this form of protection by the Italian government is certainly prestigious, this can mean that the sewage system is also ancient, or that elevators couldn’t possibly be fitted into some buildings. As locals, we are surprised ourselves when we find that a listed building DOES have elevators, or A/C units!

With all of the above in mind, so as to address our readers’ concerns and queries about which flat would be the best pick in our portfolio, in this post we came up with a few features that may interest different clients’ profiles. This is not supposed to be a scientific Venn diagram or anything like that (although it could be fun to draw one like this!): we just mean to give you a heads-up about what you should be considering before making a reservation for your upcoming trip.

If you have trouble walking or climbing stairs…

If you have a mobility issue, whether temporary or permanent, we need to remind you that central Rome is cobblestone-central and even walking through its streets could be challenging. However, we can still help you by directing you towards one of the apartments we offer where steps are minimal or an elevator can grant you greater comfort: Vicolo del Cefalo  Casa Cornacchie – they’re all within walking distance to such sights as the Pantheon, Piazza Navona or Campo de’ Fiori. In a different area, Via del Mortaro is minutes from Trevi Fountain and, again, is elevator-equipped.

We are sorry that we’re unable to recommend any specific apartment to wheelchair-bound travelers, as the architecture is too old and the doors are not large enough to let a wheelchair through.

If you are looking for a party…

If you’re a younger tourist and your interests lie in those areas of Rome that are more lively at night, look at what we offer around Monti, or in Trastevere (also see this one). Don’t worry about the noise – all accommodations are double-glassed and we even provide earplugs for your sleep!

If you want a real Roman experience…

If an authentic Italian stay is something that is important to you and you’d like to live in a neighborhood with less tourists and more neighborhood-y experiences, then Via Mecenate in the Esquilino area, Via Natale del Grande (which we linked to in the paragraph above) or Via Gallia could be the perfect fit for you!

If you want history at your doorstep…

So, you don’t mind tourists, in fact you want to be where the must-see sights are! Do not worry, as we got you: you can choose from any of our flats in the Banchi Nuovi/Via del Governo Vecchio area (such as Campanella, or Via del Governo Vecchio) or you can look at Avignonesi 10 which is conveniently located by Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps.

If you want modern…

The “youngest” building we manage in central Rome is from the late 1800s, but you can find some traces of modern settings in the decor of many of them – their owners believe in contrasting old structures and contemporary design. Try Paradiso Penthouse (which terrace you can see in the opening picture) or Dormo da Lady, yet another accommodation by Trevi Fountain.
